Why So Much Barking?

First of all, find out the reason why your dog barks that much. Some dogs bark out of fear, aggression, or loneliness. If such is the case, then a bark control collar isn’t a good idea. But if your dog barks because it’s just bored or as a bad habit, then a bark control collar can help you correct its behavior.

Choosing A Bark Control Collar

Bark control collars come in three different types. There are even some bark control dog collars that combine two of these types.

First of all, there is the citronella collar that emit a strong citrus smell whenever the dog starts to bark. Because dogs don’t care for this smell, they will eventually stop barking. Some collars will emit a hissing sound before the citrus spray, so dogs that stop the barking at this point can save themselves from the citrus smell.

Then there are the collars that emit small shocks when the dog barks. The shock is harmless and not painful, just like the one you get when you handle fabric, but it is enough for the dog to stop barking. In addition, these collars usually turn off by themselves after some time in order to avoid unnecessary stress.

Then, there is the sonic collar, which emits a high pitched sound that humans can’t hear but dogs can. The dog doesn’t like the high pitched sound and will stop barking to get it to end.

An advantage of these bark control collars is that they will train the dog even when the owner is not around. This helps with dogs that are alone while the owners are away at work, or even just asleep.
